Questions owners ask

The basics

What is The Owner's Desk?

We help owners of established companies find out whether their business records, like estimates, invoices, job files, and years of email, have a buyer. If they do, we handle the process: describing the records, getting a bid, and putting the terms in writing.

Who buys business records, and why?

Large technology companies and the firms that supply them. Many are building AI tools and want real examples of how established businesses operate: how work gets quoted, scheduled, argued over, and finished. How a buyer may use your records is spelled out in the agreement before you sign.

Is this legitimate?

It's a fair question. Here's how to judge us: we never charge you, we never ask for passwords or bank details, and nothing moves without a written agreement you've read. Ask us anything on the first call. If an answer doesn't sit right, walk away.

Does my company qualify?

Our best fits are established companies with years of digital records. Most qualifying companies have been operating for five years or more. The self-check takes about 20 seconds.

Ownership and access

Do I have to be the owner?

You need to be an owner, co-owner, partner, or an executive with authority to make this decision. If you're not, you're welcome to pass this along to the person who is.

I sold the company, or it closed. Can I still do this?

It depends on who owns the records now. If you sold the company, the buyer usually owns its records. If the company closed and you still own and control the files, it may still be possible. We'll sort that out on the first call.

Do you want paper files?

No. This is about digital records: email, accounting files, job software, CRMs, and shared drives.

Your records and privacy

Do my files leave my control?

Your originals stay where they are and your systems keep working as they do today. If you agree to a deal, the agreement says exactly which records are shared, how, and with whom.

What about my customers' and employees' information?

Before anything is shared, the written agreement covers what's excluded and how personal information is handled. You can hold back any system, folder, customer, or date range.

Will you ask for my passwords?

Never. Not by phone, text, or email. If someone claiming to be us asks, stop and email hello@theownerdesk.co.

Money and terms

What does it cost me?

Nothing. There's no fee to check your records, take a call, or receive a bid.

How much could my records be worth?

It depends on how many years you have, how detailed the records are, your industry, and what buyers are looking for at the time. Some records won't have a buyer. If yours qualify, you get a written bid with a real number instead of a guess.

How does The Owner's Desk get paid?

You never pay us. How we're compensated on a deal is written into the agreement before you sign, so you see it up front.

Is it a one-time payment?

It depends on the deal. Your written bid spells out the payment terms before you decide anything.

After you reach out

How long does this take?

The form takes about a minute. We usually call within one business day. If your records qualify, you get a written bid within 7 days.

I filled out a form on Facebook. What happens now?

Someone from our team will call or email you, usually within one business day. If you missed us, reply to our message or send a request through our contact page and we'll pick it up from there.

What if I say no?

Then that's it. There's no cost and no obligation at any step, including after you see a bid.

Find out what your records are worth.

About a minute. No fees. Nothing is shared without your approval.
